my second best piece of advice

Dear Reader,

As you know, January is one of the times of year when I sort out my plans and set supportive, joyful, uplifting intentions and goals.

I love to support others to do the same.

Everyone who teaches goal setting will tell you this:

Make sure your goals are clear and specific.

This is excellent advice.

But today, I want to go a little “nontraditional” and give you my second best piece of advice:

There are different types of goals.

So, say for instance I want to write this year (as I know many of you do). This goal can be formulated in different ways.

An identity goal: I am a writer

A project goal: I will write my first book by the end of the year

A habit goal: I will write for 15 minutes every day when I first wake up

Now each of these types of goals needs different things to be achieved but they are all getting at the same thing. Overcoming your fear, and doing the thing that you want to do.

Normally we have a preference based on our personality, our values, how we motivate ourselves, what type of year it is for us, and a bunch of other stuff.

Knowing which one of these goals is going to support you might be a bit trial and error, but guess what? You can change your mind if it's not working and formulate it differently.

This has been game changing for my clients over the years.

We often inherit a need to make everything SMART from the business world, but guess what?

You are not a business my friend.

You are a full, wild & free person and you get to learn & choose what supports you.

OK. That's my second biggest tip for goal setting. I hope it helps with the start of 2025.

With love,

~ Rosie Farrer

P.s. Really want to take this advice and run with it? I'm just about to send out the goal setting tools to the Design Your Year people. It's not too late to join and get the recording of the first workshop, goal setting tools, and access to the accountability call at the end of the month. And I'm on hand to answer any questions at any point. Find out more here.

Heyooo Reader, This week's email is about what happens when you learn to better manage your inner critic. This time last week, I was on the way to host the networking event I run once a month for women in business. It was fabulous, full of uplifting, supportive, awesome connections - as it always is. But, that's not what this email is about. Picture this: I'm standing there, on the very busy overground train, drinking my tea and reading my book, surrounded by humans. The train stops, and more...

Hey friend, In my job I spend a lot of time connecting with people, but often through a screen. I'm sure it's the same for many of you These days I find that when I'm called to show up in person I often don't look forward to it. The voices that go through my brain tell me things like: "it's a lot of time wasted traveling" "think of all the tasks you could tick off your to do list" (things like writing this newsletter at 10am when I normally do rather than at 6.22pm before I sign off from the...

Hey friend, It's sunny in the UK. That's all anyone has been talking about this week. That and absolute s*it show going on in global politics. How? Why? Can we turn it all off and back on again? How do you get some space from it all Reader? Mine is definitely through movement in nature. Today (I'm doing my work from the trail, including writing this email to youuuuu. Team photo. I cannot get Pingu to stay still 😂 And by work...I mean the big picture stuff. One of my things this year is to do...
